The first in our new series of exhibitions asks questions about boundaries in how artists perceive their world. In Amanda Thompson’s apparent representations of real places with real names, and Martha Budgett’s heads of - possibly - real people, where do the boundaries lie in the continuum of “reality” at one end and pure “abstraction” at the other? And when we look at the bold colours and apparently recognisable forms, how do we interpret or even appreciate what we are seeing?
